Hi,

As you know there are two types of knowledge
1 Tacit knowledge
2 Explicit knowledge

Your question is about Tacit, it's the knowledge couldn't be easily explained or transferred to another person by presentations or in documents. It came to the person through his experiences. Very good example will be the Software customer support environment (Comes under maintenance phase) where they resolve the software issues after the delivery. Here they need the analysis skills to identify the issues in the system since the issues raised by the customers won’t be very clear. They might ask one thing but the cause of the issue might be from another extend. The experience person in the environment will rectify the issue in short time than the new person even though the issue raised by the customer is new to him. The reason for this is the tacit knowledge he gained.

There are several researches going on to find out the ways to transfer the tacit knowledge. In the above environment explained, we can have a knowledge base to have documents with issues and the way of rectified them then the new person can refer and do the same, here by doing it only he can gain the tacit not by just refering. By sitting and watching the way the experienced person resolves issues might also be a good way of transfer the knowledge. Pair programming is a technique used to transfer the tacit knowledge in between two programmers, where two programmers (senior and junior) sit together and do the programming in one machine by exchanging them selves. Similarly there are some more techniques of these. Hope this will assist you to begin.
